Heather May Gainey is a freelance Creative Director and Photographer whose multidisciplinary practice spans art direction, photography, styling, illustration, and creative strategy.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins with a BA in Fine Art, Heather began her career at ODD END, working as a visual designer, supporting the development of an independent, sustainability-focused brand. She then joined CULT LDN + NYC as a Junior Strategist, developing innovative social strategies for global beauty brands including Rimmel London and Sally Hansen.

She later completed a seven-month studio internship at R&M Leathers, working closely with the Creative Director across design development, garment production, leatherworking, and studio operations. During this time, she supported the production of garments created for internationally renowned artists.

Since then, Heather has established herself as a freelance creative working across photography, styling, art direction, illustration, and creative production. She currently works with Hinterland Creative alongside Stewart Baxter, contributing to the creative development of album campaigns for studio artists while also supporting project management and the wider development of the collective.

Her practice brings together a fine-art foundation with experience across fashion, music, beauty, and contemporary visual culture, allowing her to move fluidly between conceptual development and hands-on creative production.
